About

Everyone is welcome at New Hope Church, no matter what your background or lifestyle.

New Hope Church is made up of people of all ages and backgrounds from across Bexley and has a heart for the community and the people who live here.

We are a Bible-believing church that meets together to worship God, be taught by His word, and grow together as followers of Jesus so that we are equipped to care for and serve the people around us.

New Hope Church meets in both Bexleyheath and Slade Green and we long to have an expression of New Hope Church established in Abbeywood, Barnehurst, Crayford, Erith, Thamesmead and Welling so people all across Bexley can know God’s unconditional love for them.

We are part of a group called Regions Beyond which is part of a wider family of churches called Newfrontiers. We are also members of the Evangelical Alliance.

Meet the team

New Hope Church is led and looked after by a team who work together to take responsibility for the church.

In the Bible, these are often called pastors, overseers or elders. We tend to go with the word 'elders'.

John Masheder

John is married to Paula and has three grown-up children. He works full time for New Hope Church and leads the team.

James Duncan

James is married to Sarah and has three young children. He also has a job in the leisure business and enjoys a sociable craft beer.

James Lumgair

James is married to Ally and has three young children. He also works for the NHS building digital products.

Kevin McClaren

Kevin is married to Janet and has two grown-up children. He works full time for New Hope Church.

The church is also served by lots of wonderful people in brilliant teams from trustees to children’s teams.

What we believe

New Hope Church is an evangelical, charismatic and Protestant church. We’re rooted in the historic Christian faith and hold to its core beliefs, as expressed in statements like the Nicene Creed. We’re also members of the Evangelical Alliance and fully affirm their basis of faith.

The One True God
The one true God who lives eternally in three persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
God’s Love and Sovereignty
The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
The Bible
The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God – fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.
Human Dignity
The dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.
Jesus Christ
The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ – born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
The Cross
The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
Bodily Resurrection
The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
Justification by Grace
The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
The Holy Spirit
The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.
The Church
The church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers — given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.
Jesus’ Return
The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.

New Hope Music

Music is an important part of Christian life — it helps us express our love for God, reflect on who He is, and draw closer to Him. The Bible is full of encouragement to sing, including the Psalms which say, “Sing a new song to the Lord.”

We believe God created music for a reason, and we love using it to worship Him. To give you a flavour of the kind of songs we sing, here’s an example of some homegrown music we've written right here at New Hope.

Giving

Everything that happens through New Hope Church is only possible because of your generosity.

The Bible teaches us a lot about handling our money and giving. Giving honours God, blesses the community and resources the church.

The Bible says to give regularly, proportionally (according to income) – and in faith: trusting God to provide.
