About Us

For over 145 years, people have gathered here to worship, serve, and share hope. Today, as New Hope Church (formerly Slade Green Christian Fellowship), we continue that mission - loving God and one another passionately - we're all about Jesus, knowing Him and making Him known.

We are a vibrant church community in Slade Green, who are passionate about Jesus! We believe the good news of Jesus brings hope, healing, and new life to everyone. Our heart is to see people saved, set free, empowered, and equipped to serve others.

Information:

New Hope Church is a multisite church, meeting each Sunday in different places across Bexley so the love of Jesus can reach as many communities as possible. Right now, we have two sites: Slade Green at 11am and Bexleyheath at 10.30am.

You are welcome here

We’d love to meet you, whether you’ve been part of church life for years or are just exploring faith.

Our Sunday services are where we come together to celebrate the fact that Jesus is alive, and our sins are forgiven! We sing songs, spend time in the Bible and pray for and encourage one another to receive fresh power from the Holy Spirit to live for God.

We also provide children's activites for all ages and and on the first Sunday of the month we share communion to remember Jesus’ love and presence with us.

Information:

We know coming to church for the first time can feel a bit nerve-wracking—but don’t worry, none of us have it all together. We’re all on this journey of life and faith with Jesus, and we’d love to support you however we can.

Frequently Asked Questions

Visiting for the first time can feel like a big step, so here are some answers to help you know what to expect.

Before you arrive

What time do I need to arrive?

We recommend you arrive 15 minutes before the meeting starts so that you have time to find parking and your seat. Our Sunday serivce starts at 11am.

What about parking?

There isn't dedicated parking, but free on-street parking is available. Out of courtesy to our neighbours, please park considerately and avoid parking across driveways or very close to junctions.

What public transport is available?

It's an easy walk from Slade Green station (7 mins walk), and buses 89, 99, and 428 are close by:

  • 89 bus stop: E - Bridge Road / Slade Green Road (2 min walk)
  • 99 bus stop: L - Hazel Road (3 min walk)
  • 428 bus stop: C - Howbury Land / Slade Green Station (10 min walk)
What do I wear?

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Most people dress casually - no need to dress up unless you want to.

During the service

Where do I sit?

You can sit wherever you feel comfortable. If you have difficulty locating a seat or need assistance, the Welcome Team is there to help you.

What should I expect during the service?

We expect to experience joyful, creative and expressive worship times. We give time for a talk, making the truth of the Bible relevant to life. We provide a safe and stimulating environment for children.

How long is the service?

Our services last an hour and a half but people stick around for a chat afterwards which you are welcome to join and make friends.

How long is your preaching?

We aim to keep messages clear, engaging, and relevant - no confusing jargon or assumptions that you "know it all." We try our best to keep it within 30 minutes.

What's the music like?

We usually spend a bit of time singing together. It's a way to focus our hearts on God. Sing if you like - loudly or quietly - or just take it in. We tend to use contemporary worship songs, and sometimes even songs written by our worship team.

What will my children do during the service?

Kids are a massive part of New Hope so we provide kids church for all ages. We have fun, age-appropriate kids' groups during the service, so you can relax and take part knowing they're cared for. Typically they stay in for a couple of songs and then go out to the back hall where there will be singing, crafting and learning about the Bible in an interactive way. All of our kids leaders are DBS checked and you can contact us if you want to read our safeguarding policy.

Some kids will want to stay with their parents during the service which is also completely fine too.

What if my children like to make noise?

Don't worry if you or your kids make a bit of noise - you won't be judged. Our joy comes from people connecting with God, not running a flawless service.

Will there be refreshments?

We want visitors to feel welcome and comfortable and we invite you to stay at the end of the meeting for tea, coffee and chat. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks or thermal for if you want a drink during the service.

General questions

Do I have to be a Christian or know the Bible to attend?

No! Whether you've never been to church, know nothing about the Bible, or have big questions - you're in the right place.

Do I need to bring money?

There's no expectation for visitors to give. Sometimes there is an offering that goes round where you can contribute. You will notice a lot of people will pass it by because members will give through direct debit so you can feel at ease if you want to pass it by.

What if I'm quiet and get nervous?

We do our best to make everyone feel included and comfortable. Our church is more like a big family than a formal event. We won't be offended if you'd rather not chat or make small talk. We want you to feel at home, at your own pace.

Is every service the same?

We're always learning - We want New Hope to reflect the kind of church you read about in the Bible. If something didn't feel right or welcoming, let us know - we're open to feedback and always growing.
